Simple Illusion

All women need the help of some trusty wardrobe staples to help them hide any imperfections and streamline the silhouette. Step forward the humble tunic: this is a timeless item that’s sure to see you through the coming autumn/winter season.

It’s not just on beach holidays and those dreaded fat days that this perfect cover-up comes into its own. Versatile tunics are perfect for dressing up or down this winter, weather paired back and minimalist layered over skinny jeans or embellished with bold accessories. Dress up your favorite tunic for the party season by tapping into the A/W12 gothic trend; just add plenty of leather and lace for a dramatic evening look that verges on the other-worldly.

One fashion photographer renowned for blurring the lines between fantasy and high fashion is Tim Walker. Style mavens recently flocked to the opening of his Story Teller exhibition last week, with Kate Moss, Jamie Hince and Cara Delevingne in attendance, to name but a few. Somerset House provided the perfect setting for the celebrations, as guests enjoyed oysters and flowing cocktails in the historic building’s grand halls.

As the lavish and star-studded party got under way, the fashion pack couldn’t fail to be impressed by Walker’s distinctive fairy-tale creations. His iconic photographs and behind the scenes films showcased Spitfires crashing through walls, giant dolls chasing models and crocodiles sneaking into bedrooms. It’s a collection that’s mesmerising to behold, as were the celebrities’ outfits on the night. Kate Moss wore a striking emerald jumpsuit, Helena Bonham Carter sported a classic Vivienne Westwood get-up and model Suki Waterhouse tapped into the gothic luxe trend in a sheer lace panelled dress.

The exhibition made it very clear that Walker does not adhere to clichéd ideas of beauty. In his own words: ‘I am interested in individuality because that is what is truly valuable’ – sound advice when making your own stamp in the fashion world, illusory or otherwise.

Tuesday's Thrifty Treasure: Kendall Jenner

I have already done a look for less on Kendall Jenner with this exact yellow blazer, last time I used black skinny jeans, and my Amour shoes from Shoedazzle.  When I purchased this black skirt a couple weeks ago I thought is would be the perfect skirt to do the look for less again but this time with the skirt.  I really like this look, this yellow blazer is one of my favorite thrift store finds.  Hope you enjoy my Look for Less!

Shoedazzle's Shala & Jackie

I was feeling a little blue today, not sure why I may just be exhausted.  I have insomnia, so I haven't been getting much sleep lately.  What makes me happy is bright colors, so I threw on my green skinny jeans, and this cute colorful blazer I found at Wet Seal over the weekend.  I am feeling a lot happier now, and top it all off I am having a good hair day!  I applied the hair mask from nuNAAT today, and I just love how shiny and smooth it makes my hair!  They are currently hosting a giveaway on my blog so make sure to enter!

I also purchased these adorable studded flats from Shoedazzle this month part of the BOGO sale, I really wanted the black but they were sold out in my size.  The description says they are purple, but they look a little more magenta to me.  I ordered .5 size up as I usually do in flats since I have wide feet and they fit perfectly.  I love them!  If you are not a Shoedazzle member use my link to sign up, and take advantage of their 50% off sale they are having right now!

I have been stressing a little about getting ready for Thanksgiving tomorrow that I think Happy Hour at RA tonight would be a great way to relax before tomorrow!  I love to dress in heels anytime I go out with my hubby, so I put my black skirt, Jackie studded wine heels from Shoedazzle, and my black studded purse from JustFab.  I think I like the second look the most.  If I could live in dresses, skirts and heels all day everyday I would!

Tuesday's Thrifty Treasure

Good morning!  I am rushing around like always, but I am glad we had a few minutes to take pictures of my outfit of the day.  I found this blue blazer at Epic a while back and I couldn't really figure out what to wear with it, until I found this cute navy skirt at Charlotte Russe last week.  I love this blazer it kinda reminds me of a uniform school girls wear, and also of how Alicia Silverstone used to dress in the movie Clueless one of my favorite movies.

I also found this pretty bag at the very bottom of all my bags that I had forgotten about!   It was a gift from my dad, such a pretty bag looks similar to a Chanel bag.  It is a black quilted bag with gold studs on it.  I will definitely be using this bag more often now that I found it!

Blazer: Epic $1
Skirt: Charlotte Russe $6
Bag: JustFab VIP $40
Shoes: Forever 21 $11
